Hi all,

Trying to collect all the various topics into one place! Blackberry users appear to be experiencing app freezes (locking up the whole device) at various points.

I am trying to address these problems in the next beta which will uploaded very shortly. Please test and provide feedback when the beta is available.

cheers,
Karl

Running blackberry v4.0 on a 7290 have the blackberry beta installed using either telnet or SSH.

I can actually get a prompt with both SSH and telnet and as soon as I do the application locks up.

Error message:

Uncaught exception: Process midpssh(228) killed due to message queue overflow.

Can anyone tell me if the same thing happens when connecting via Telnet, eg. to a telnet server or to an SMTP server and then using the Type option to type characters in quick succession?

Also can anyone tell me if the same thing happens when connected via SSH but issuing multiple Input entries (as opposed to Type) quickly?

cheers,
Karl

Hi Karl,

1.4.4 seems to be a slight improvement over 1.4.2.

Mine seems to have problems when it scrolls to fast. So, for example, I am using it to access a Cisco router. If I do a Ping command that just dumps out 3 or 4 lines of output, it works fine. But if I do a Show command that dumps more than a screen of data at a time it freezes. 1.4.4 does seem slightly more tolerant. It lets me output a couple of pages before freezing where befor it would freeze on the first one.

Blackbery 7250 running OS v. 4.0.0.204

Thanks for the great work , Karl!!

Hi GV27,

Thanks for your feedback. Do you still experience freezes when using Type mode (as opposed to the Input option)?

Can all Blackberry users please try out the latest ALPHA release:
http://xk72.com/midpssh/alpha/

This changes a few things in the I/O for Blackberry. Unfortunately I only have access to an emulator which doesn't reproduce socket behaviour very faithfully. I'm trying to find someone I know who has a Blackberry themselves!

cheers,
Karl

Type mode does help as long as I don't get ahead of it. e.g. the spacebar is used to page down through multiple pages. As long as I'm patient and don't try the spacebar again while wating for the next page, I'm OK.

It did freeze when I exited the router. But if I just close the session I'm OK.

A couple of times I've had to reset my device twice after a freeze. "JVM Error 553" I believe - I'll check the number if it happens again - I can't read my own writing!

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Karl,

My device didn't like 1.4.5 at all. Crying or Very sad

It would freeze right off when connecting. I'd get "connecting to (router x)..OK And that's it.

A couple little annoyances while I'm reporting things:

On install I get a "JVM Error 105". But after resetting the device it's installed.

The first time opening a new session I get the screen allowing or denying the connection. I allow it, and then the device freezes. Once reset, however, the connection is allowed without prompt.

My 7520 wasn't all that crazy about installing this 1.4.5 version either. Got the same "JVM Error 105". Reset necessary.

Tried to set SSH2 as default, couldn't login. Set it back to SSH1 and everything looks good. So far, no other problems.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for that detail. I will post another alpha shortly.

JVM Error 105 is:
The file system API has returned an error status for a certain operation. This could indicate a corrupt filesystem or an error in the JVM.

Which is strange. I haven't heard that reported before... perhaps something has become mucky on your device? A few freezes and reboots etc can't be helping I'm sure.

I also haven't heard anyone having lock ups on connect either! This would usually be because the connect is in the same thread as the GUI but that isn't the case.

I'm a bit flummoxed. Do you happen to have Java development experience and would be interested in doing debugging on the Blackberry? I think that's what I need now to find and fix all these probs! Meanwhile I'm trying to find someone with one myself Smile

Hi Chris,

Can you try downloading the alpha again. It has the same version number, but will hopefully work a lot better than the previous alpha.

cheers,
Karl

Hello,
I just installed the alpha 1.4.5. I have a BB Enterprise server and talk through that to my intranet.
When I initiate a telnet session i get: "Connecting to <ip address>...OK" and less then a second I get "Session Report" IN: 0 bytes OUT: 0 bytes TOTAL: 0 bytes"
I then close that (I can't escape out) and select a ssh session.
I get:
Connecting to <ip>...OK
Negotiating...<hangs for like 10to20 seconds then>OK"
ssh-dss <fingerprint>

Login and password not accepted.
Available methods are: publickey, password, keyboard-interactive

The screen hangs here and I can't excape but use the menu to close or disconnect session.

thanks for the great job you guys are doing!
Darth

Hi Darth,

The later sounds like the username and password were entered incorrectly. As silly as it sounds; please try entering these in again. If it still fails please try temporarily setting your password to something simple to type on the phone and try again.

Can you also tell us what BB you are using and what OS it is running?

cheers,
Karl
