Lite builds

Some devices impose a limitation on the size of the applications (midlets) that are installed. This limitation, if imposed, is usually 64KB.

When you try to install a large application you may see some of the following messages, all telling you that the application is too big for your device:

  • Application too big
  • Memory full
  • Wrong file format

Differences between Lite and Full

Lite versions are a trade off between functionality and file size. In order to make lite lite some functionality is removed. In recent versions the removed functionality has become quite minimal.

  • Lite builds are either SSH1 or SSH2, not both. No lite build contains telnet (if someone wants a lite telnet build I could make one)
  • What little documentation and help there may be in MidpSSH itself is quite likely removed
  • Sorting of sessions
  • Importing of sessions
  • Showing the key bindings during a session
