Macros

Macros can be set up for often-typed strings or commands, as typing on a mobile device is often tiresome. Macros are set up in the Macros menu.

Macros Menu

The Macros menu can be accessed from the Main Menu or from the menu during a session.

Macros are organised into sets. The first screen of the Macros menu is a list of Macro Sets. When you first install MidpSSH you will have an “Untitled Set” already created. You can:

  • Open a macro set, to look at the macros within it
  • Edit a macro set’s name
  • Delete a macro set
  • Create a new macro set

When you open the macro set you view a list of the macros in that set. The macros are listed by name and appear in the order in which they were created.

If you are connected to a session you can:

  • Run the macro; the selected macro is output to the current connection
  • Use the macro; the selected macro is put into a textbox for you to edit before using without changing the stored macro

Whether connected or not you can:

  • Edit a macro
  • Delete a macro
  • Create a new macro

Each macro has:

  • An optional name; this is the name displayed in the macro list. If a macro doesn’t have a name its value is shown in the list instead. For most purposes this is fine, which is why name is optional
  • A value; the string to enter when you run the macro (including any command substitutions)
  • A mode either Enter or Type; the enter mode means that the macro string will be followed by the enter character, such as for entering a command; the type mode means the macro string will not be followed by the enter key. Enter mode is the default.

Macro values support command substitutions to let you type control characters and other special characters.
